Though known for his lumberjack skills and ability to befriend oxen, Paul Bunyan, like many successful men of his era was a slave owner. There is little solid evidence, but scholars believe he may have had romantic relationships with some of the women he owned. While difficult to apply modern sensibilities to by gone eras, this is still a shameful remnant of less enlightened thinking.
